Dear Creator,
General
Likes:
- Fics that are character-focused, character-driven, and deal with character exploration or character development. Show me aspects of a character I never considered before, or explorations of how a character's upbringing influences their worldview!
- Fics as challenge, whether it be a challenge on canon, on fanon, on fandom, or a comment on our own reality! This includes rage-driven spite-fic where you want to make a Point, which I often enjoy.
- A focus on relationships, particularly how a character interacts with the world around them and other characters based on their upbringing and worldview.
- Thematically, I love when characters are put in a tough spot, moral ambiguity, and themes around honour, duty, and responsibility.
- All flavours of AU. Canon-divergence, Modern AUs, Mundane AUs, crossovers, etc, especially if it interacts with one of the above.
- Worldbuilding, especially through in-universe documents (please consider this an opt-in to pretty much whatever in-universe document or weird in-universe storytelling device you can dream up).
- Alongside the worldbuilding, I really like accuracy and real-life details. I’ve fucking adored fic that involve a deep understanding of 9/11, I’ve written fic where R2P is a big deal, I suspect I’m known for my legal shit, and so—if you have specialized knowledge of something, I love seeing it!
- Romance of all varieties: fluff, happy endings, drunken confessions, friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, fake marriage, arranged marriages, established relationships, slow-burn, shovel talk, and pining (mutual or otherwise). In general, I prefer M/F pairings, but I don’t mind M/M or F/F pairings and prefer them if canon (I just enjoy them differently because I’m cishet).
- Smut-wise, I love first times, gentle sex, rough sex, possessive themes, BDSM (e.g. bondage, spanking with a hand), D/s with femsub, impregnation and pregnancy.
I am always open to treats!
Dislikes:
In general, unless otherwise requested, I don't take well to crack fic, soapbox fic/issuefic, amnesia fic, body swaps, cringe comedy, and plots based on miscommunication or jealousy. If there is hurt, I would like comfort, or I often just can't get through it—same goes for angst (unless explicitly requested, of course!). That said, these are general dislikes--they're not DNWs, I have liked fics with all these themes, I have sometimes requested these things, and if you have an idea that you’re worried might come close to one of these but where these aren’t the focus, don’t worry and go for it.
Hard DNWs:
Please note that these are my general hard DNWs. In some cases, there may be sections where some (or all!) of them won't apply, and in that case follow what was in the sign up.
- Character bashing. In general, I like to imagine that all characters are like people—they're complex, and they have an array of good points and bad points.
- Harm or death of children or small animals (background mentions or past references is fine, as are things like statistics—I just don’t want to be dragged through it in detail, like please don’t make this a central point of the fic).
- Except otherwise indicated, non-canonical major character death, graphic violence and torture (graphic being “more than what is in canon”), non-con or dub-con, PWP or large age differences (>15)
- Adultery or infidelity (specifically, this is mostly about the betrayal--if you have a plot where two people are married for convenience and happen to have other relationships, that wouldn't trigger as long as everyone knows and doesn't care)
- Smut-wise, unless it’s indicated above in my likes, I’m likely not going to appreciate anything kinky. To be more specific, I DNW A/B/O, age play, humiliation, bloodplay, cannibalism or vore, watersports, scat, mpreg, snuff, or underage (<15).
Harry Potter
Favourite Tropes
I have a few favourite tropes and kinds of fics for this, which come up all the time:
- Rule 63 is amazing for this fandom, because gender issues are sort of rife throughout the novels. Even in the more progressive areas, we can see that JKR hugely valorises motherhood (see: Molly Weasley), that she disrespects women openly feminine (see: treatment of Cho Chang, Fleur Delacour), and then there’s JKR’s comments on trans-persons.... There’s just so much to work with when you mess around with gender in this universe, and I love it.
- War: Look, if you are one of those Massive Nerds Like Me who know a lot about law, terrorism, international relations, insurgency, counter-insurgency, or actual politics (looking at all you lawyers, polisci geeks, international relations grads, ex-military, Hoya alumni, anyone who hangs out on acoup.blog…), you know without me telling you that quite a lot of the actual war and post-war piece doesn’t make sense. I would love if you took a perspective that made the war realistic.
- Post-War and Redemption: Running a bit along the lines of the above, war is messy. Character relationships post-war are going to be equally messy! I love watching characters develop from the people they had to be during a hopefully realistic war and re-adapting to peaceful society—regardless of whether they were on the side of right or wrong.
- Worldbuilding: I’ll take pretty much anything for worldbuilding because there are So Many Questions and So Many Unsatisfactory Answers. High society pureblood culture is a good option, because while fanon often interprets this as aristocracy-like with arranged marriages and so on, I’m less convinced that is actually the case (or... make a case for it for me). Other options include the inner workings of the Ministry of Magic, international relations, relations with Muggles if any, how does the Statute of Secrecy Work…?
- In general, for worldbuilding, I strongly prefer things that bring the magical world closer to the real world, not things that make them More Magical, e.g., how does the wizarding world react to major Muggle events like WWI? What about their relationship with Muggle Christianity? Even if they didn’t formally split off from society until 1692, was there a period of withdrawal? If so, when did that start? Generally, given that the Statute of Secrecy canonically only came into force in 1692, I really go off on how witches and wizards before then lived in our world with differences happening afterwards. Therefore, I ascribe to the view that lot of British wizards are probably Christian in a broad way (that may theologically actually be quite different), that they celebrate Christian holidays simply because they were the “default” holidays in 1692, and that any paganism movement is probably a post-Statute revitalization (because Europe had effectively eradicated paganism some seven centuries before the Statute). Further, I also like to think that there is significant overlap and bleed-through between our worlds, both because of the continuing influx of halfbloods and Muggleborns, but also because the wizarding world seems to not have systems for the supply of basic goods, i.e. agriculture, textiles, etc. Madam Malkin has to buy cloth from somewhere.
- Overall, I like to see fic that shows me that wizards are human, and that magic doesn’t make them infallible or better humans—I find fic about how witches and wizards are superior re: various -isms because of magic to be really disheartening because it’s like telling me that no matter how much we try, we cannot be great because we can never have magic. I really like fic that emphasizes our common humanity, which can be great or awful!
Draco Malfoy
Draco has literally so much promise. He is who he is because he is a product of his upbringing, and the world he thought he knew shifts so completely under him during the course of canon. Tons of material to work with here on multiple fronts, plus all the gender mess that I love. Some prompts:
- Draco was a child when he joined the Death Eaters. I'd love to see him in the immediate post-war. How does his trial go? How do his friends treat him, when he once thought he would be a hero, and now he's possibly a criminal? Is he tried at all? How does he come to terms with what he's done? Yes, I've read a ton of Draco post-war redemption arcs, and I still want more.
- Rule 63! Draco Malfoy is from a conservative, pureblood family, which means that a F!Draco Malfoy was probably raised very, very differently than her canon counterpart. How does that play out? Is she highly feminine and has she ever played Quidditch (there is one mention in PS that the Slytherin Quidditch Team is all boys)? Is she intent on making a good match for her family?
- Better yet, on a Rule 63, I’d love to see how Voldemort victimizes F!Draco as opposed to Draco. Since Bellatrix is essentially Voldemort’s right-hand woman, it’s clear that Voldemort doesn’t necessarily treat women differently from men, but at the same time the majority of his followers do tend to be men and Voldemort was raised in a more conservative time himself. Does Voldemort still force F!Draco into trying to kill Dumbledore or does he punish her in the stead of her family in other ways? (note: if you decide to do this, my non-con, dub-con, graphic violence, torture, large age differences, and major character death DNWs are suspended.)
Tom Riddle
I’m really not very convinced with the canonical explanation for why Tom Riddle became Voldemort. JKR says that he is incapable of love because he was conceived under a Love Potion and not real love, but this reeks of Too Much Simplicity and Not Enough Realism to me. I’d love an in-depth exploration of how Tom Riddle became Voldemort, and why? (This is another request where my non-con, dub-con, graphic violence, torture, large age differences and major character death DNWs are suspended).
- What was his past like? We know he was in an orphanage, and it was sombre, but I don’t think that’s necessarily enough to turn him into a power-hungry sociopath. Alternatively, how does he work this at Hogwarts, or in his post-schooling quest for power?
- Without his followers, Tom Riddle would have just been a terrorist. How does he draw followers? Power is one aspect, sure—but Tom Riddle didn’t just attract bottom-feeders, he attracted people who were already powerful and with money. So, why are they attracted to him? Why are they risking their power, their wealth, their status in society for him, and in large enough numbers to terrorize a nation? I’d love if you drew on real life elements in post-WW2 Britain or developed widespread political and cultural concerns to really give this life.
- RULE 63: Voldemort was born and raised in an earlier time, probably WW2 or thereabouts. How does a F!Tom Riddle handle the world? How does she deal with Horace Slughorn, how does she gain followers, and what does her path to conquest look like compared to Voldemort’s?
Percy Weasley
I am one of those people who thinks that Percy gets a bit of a short shrift in canon. His brothers make fun of him because he's dour and stiff and boring, and he's the only one of the Weasleys who is taken in by the Ministry. But if we consider his background, is this really that surprising? Unlike the rest of our characters, Percy is probably the only one who has memories of the First Wizarding War. In 1981, when Harry defeated Voldemort, Percy was about 5 or 6 years old. He was possibly the oldest Weasley child still at home (in order for the timelines in PS to make sense, Charlie has to be at least 3 years older than him, if not more). The twins were 3 or 4, Ron about 2, and Ginny a baby. Molly almost certainly put more responsibility on Percy than he should have had, there were almost certainly extremely strict rules on him at pain of Death Eater attack and the death of his whole family and in the mix of this, Percy is 6! He is exactly what his parents made him be at that age—someone who takes on too much responsibility, who follows authority rigidly because he has been taught to follow orders without questioning, because that is how you keep a 6-year-old from inadvertently getting his family killed. So:
- I am 100% down for a post-fic redemption arc for him. Hell, I am down for an AU where Percy never joins the Ministry, or where Percy is a spy for the Order within the Ministry, or where Percy is actually given the skills he needs earlier on so that he doesn't later fall for the Ministry's words.
- Tell me more about Percy's relationship with the rest of his family. Tell me how out of place he feels caught between his older brothers, who are just a bit too old for him to fit with easily despite the fact that they're the ones who remember the First Wizarding War (Charlie being at least 9 or 10 and Bill even older means that while they remember it, they also had the ability to understand it), and his more rambunctious younger siblings. Tell me how rules-following Percy gets by in a family that clearly doesn't really get him.
- Give me a Percy Weasley romance. I want him to be happy and don’t really care who he’s with for that to happen. Pansy Parkinson creates some interesting character dynamics, so I nominated her; but at the same time, we know nothing about Audrey and I’d love to see something like Percy coping with the end of the war and the mess of his family by escaping into the Muggle world and falling in love with a Muggle (yes, I headcanon Audrey as a Muggle).
- Rule 63 Percy. This is an interesting one because gender clearly matters in the Weasley family; Molly Weasley kept having kids until she had a daughter, and it’s clear that Ginny was raised quite differently from her brothers (Ginny broke into the broom shed; the boys didn’t have to). If Percy is a girl, is she the youngest of three? What if she’s a trans girl? How does her family react?
Petunia Evans Dursley
Let’s talk about Petunia. I’m not entirely sure I like her story arc in the books, and while I find it not unrealistic, I also find it simplistic. Two of my favourite fics are Petunia-centred: Deco’s By Baker Street Station, I Sat Down And Wept, and dwellingondreams’ in the language of flowers. Suffice it to say, I’m definitely looking for an AU here that really works out Petunia’s character differently.
- So, Petunia doesn’t have magic. There are so many ways she can react to that, and to her parents’ obvious favouring of Lily, but let’s say she reacts differently. I’d love something that took that background and had her become a successful woman in her own right instead of just forever salty.
- AUs where Petunia is also magical would be interesting! I’d love either a story where both Petunia and Lily are magical, or where Petunia has magic and Lily doesn’t.
- Petunia takes the kids and leaves Vernon because Vernon is abusive. Now what?
Really, I just want an AU where Petunia is a good parent and a reasonable and responsible adult who doesn’t take her teenage anger out on a child, please.
Cho Chang
Cho Chang holds a special place in my heart because when I was a kid in 1996, she was like the only character I saw in literature that looked like me. Was she a particularly good example of diversity? Not really—but that’s something that calls out to be fixed.
Make Cho Chang Asian. Make her Korean or Chinese by heritage, and let it show in her character. I’d love to see how her cultural background influences her character and her relationships. I also really love fic about immigration and identity, and I would love a fic where she negotiates who she is as a person of colour in majority-white Britain.
Cho Chang/Cedric Diggory
I love Cho/Cedric as a pairing because I think they’re very sweet! I would really love something that maximizes the fact that they’re sweet, they’re teenagers, they’re head over heels in love, they’re passionate and a little stupid, and generally that anything for you vibe. Getting together fic would be great, but so would established relationship fic! Some prompts:
- Quidditch relationship/rivalry! They’re both in Quidditch, so it’s a common basis for a relationship—but as any Asian knows, sports-ing is not necessarily supported by family. There’s potential for conflict there, especially if Cho decides to go professional in Quidditch as opposed to, say, becoming a Healer. And Cedric there to help her get through it.
- Cedric Lives AU—where are Cho and Cedric during the war? How does the impact of the war affect them and their relationship? I should note here that Cursed Child being like “Cedric would have been evil” is absolutely dead to me, so no evil Cedric please.
- Cedric Lives AU because Cedric knocks up Cho after the Second Task and it is deemed too scandalous to allow him to compete in the Third Task at all! Honestly, since Cedric doesn’t know he would have died, I really would love a fic that focused on the fallout of this—the scandal, the decision not to allow Cedric to compete, what people are saying about Cho and Cedric. I also would really love if Cedric and Cho were madly in love in that teenage way, and for Cedric to really take ownership for his part in the whole situation, and for them to basically have to grow up really fast and Figure Shit Out together. And a very quick shotgun wedding that has more media attention than either of them want.
I’m a fluffy person and a fluff fan, so I definitely would prefer if we just… pretend like Cedric didn’t die if you write Cho/Cedric, because I don’t think I could handle it unless it was far, far in the past for Cho and she had moved on. I like her and while Cedric’s death is no doubt a huge part of her past (hey, maybe it’s why she goes and becomes a Quidditch star, because it’s where she felt like she could get away from her grief?), I would be sad to read about her pining for a dead boyfriend in the present. Similarly, I like Cedric, let’s not have him become a Death Eater a la Cursed Child.
Cho Chang/Blaise Zabini
This is a ship that I am deeply into for sheer thematic potential. One of my favourite, favourite things to explore are themes of identity, especially immigrant or racialized identity, and about fitting in against a “mainstream” society. Cho is Chinese; Blaise is, if not Black, certainly Black by British standards (well do I remember the racist backlash when he was described as such when HBP was released). I’d love something about this at Hogwarts, during the war, or afterwards. Basically, I think there’s a lot of immigrant identity angst to be had here by both characters, and I’m seriously into that. I don’t have precise prompts, but I do hope this is helpful!
Cho Chang/Percy Weasley
I love Cho, and I love Percy, and therefore I would love them together. I definitely think you can find areas in common between the two of them, especially during the war. I love fic where both Cho and Percy are in the Ministry during the war, and they’re both trying to subtly subvert the Ministry (regardless of whether they are part of the Order or not). I’d love if they connected through their work at the Ministry, or after the war.
Pansy Parkinson/Percy Weasley
I couldn’t tell you why I like this pairing in any clarity, but I feel like these two characters fit together. Personality-wise, I could really see them matching, and after the war, I think they’d really connect and relate to each other because they’re both in the position of dealing with youthful, if not child, mistakes. There’s Percy, who was arguably on the “wrong” side as part of the Ministry for many years; and there’s Pansy, who at 18 said something out of fear about handing Harry Potter over to Voldemort.
Some prompts:
- Getting together fic! I would love something where they met (possibly as Ministry co-workers) and genuinely fell in love and had to deal with their own internal biases, the prejudice of the outside world, etc.
- I’m pretty much always up for a shotgun wedding, and for these two, involving alcohol is also great. They get drunk, have sex, and Percy knocked her up and now they’re getting married. I do like them to actually like each other (or have grudging admiration of each other that turns into like), rather than being unhappy.
Tortall
Yukimi no Daiomoru/Nealan of Queenscove
This is my OTP for the Torall series (shortly followed by Daine/Numair). I love Neal as a character because he’s got so much going on behind him—he’s the oldest page in years, and reading between the lines, it’s clear that he entered knight-training because his two elder brothers died and left him as the heir to the duchy. He occupies a position of high privilege, being heir to a duchy, and he isn’t afraid to wield that authority if it suits him. He’s also funny, and he’s self-deprecating—in short, he’s complicated, and I love complicated characters.
And there’s Yuki, and everything we know about Yuki can be summed up in a few sentences. She’s Yamani, one of Princess Shinkokami’s closest friends; she’s from the noh Daiomoru house, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious houses in the Yamani Isles. She’s a mage, because she goes to the Midwinter mages party. She’s “plump and peppery”, and she can wield the shukusen and naginata, and the bow. She joins the Queen’s Riders.
And somewhere in Squire, Neal and Yuki have a whole romance that culminates in their engagement at the end of his Order that we just don’t see. It’s aggravating enough that I have written their romance three separate times (in Unwilling, call me a fool, and two swallows) and it’s not enough, damn it.
So please: write me an intense Neal/Yuki romance. Make it full of chivalric courtly love, make it a full medieval-style courtship, give me a dreamy medieval romance where they’re both conscious of their status and there are chaperones and sneaking hand-holding, let alone a kiss, is a big fucking deal. Fill it with wistful, yearning vibes, and all the pining. All the dramatic, angsty pining, especially when Neal goes off to war.
Or: blow up the sparks and give me their first night together. Are they shy? Established-relationship fic also works for me—give me Yuki’s first visit to Queenscove! Pregnancy and kidfic are also wonderful, and certainly in Neal and Yuki’s future since he is the heir to the duchy, and I’d love to see them being deeply in love around their first pregnancy and child.
Or: screw the rest of that, Modern AU would also be excellent. Is Neal a rising fencing star struggling to balance his tournament schedule with the demands of medical school? What about his brothers in this case; are they setting the standard for him, having both gone to the Olympics? What about Yuki—is she an international student recruited for her own skill with the blade or other athletic skill? How do they meet, and how do sparks fly? Though, if you do this, while I’m very partial to fencing, that’s because I actually fence, so… unless you also fence, it might be easier if you just picked hockey. Or rugby. Or another sport on the violent end that I know absolutely nothing about, because fencing culture is special.
Jonathan of Conte
This is a very interesting one for a potential Rule 63! Would a female Jonathan have still inherited the throne as a matter of right? he likely wouldn’t have been in knight-training, so where would she be instead? Is King Roald arranging a marriage for her—possibly against her wishes, or to Duke Roger, or are there hungry people looking to take her kingdom from her? Or—if she doesn’t inherit the throne as a matter of right, what then? If she sees that Duke Roger would be bad for the country, how does she lead the coup?Outside of a Rule 63, I also wouldn’t mind a setting change for Jonathan—what would this prince have been like in a modern AU without the monarchy or magic? Not sure you could pull 10K out of it, but you’re welcome to try!
Matthias Tunstall
Hello, I am here for fix-it fic. I hated the end of Mastiff.
Romances of Arquitaine
This is my pipe dream fandom, I can’t even match on this in Yuletide, but I am determined.
How do I even begin describing my love of this series? It tickles so my id so hard, from concept to characterization to worldbuilding. To begin, there is Vianne di Rocancheil: hedgewitch, bookworm, and lady-in-waiting to Princesse Lisele d’Arquitaine. She’s also a royal byblow, but that doesn’t matter until it does, because there’s a coup that murders both the King and the Princesse.
Then, there’s Tristan D’Arcenne: the Captain of the King’s Guard, Left Hand of the King, desperately in love with Vianne and who might have betrayed and killed the King because the King wouldn’t let him court Vianne. With the coup, Vianne is now the Queen, if throneless, and Tristan must now attempt unseat the king that he might have helped put on the throne. Without letting Vianne know that he might have been involved in the murder of the last King and Princesse, of course.
Vianne di Rocancheil/Tristan d’Arcenne
I love the characterization of Vianne, especially in The Hedgewitch Queen. As she said herself, she was specifically raised to be without ambition, and those lessons took. What I love the most about her is that she is exactly what one would expect of a lady-in-waiting to the Princesse—she’s intensely loyal to her Princesse, she has no idea what she’s doing, the whole point of her life thus far was the glittering Court social scene. She has no practical skills, and she’s thrown into the deep end with no skills to survive it. And on the other hand, there’s Tristan, who is deeply in love with Vianne—and who was involved in killing the people she loved and who helped put her in this impossible situation.
So, onto my prompts!
- Canon divergence AU! I would love to see what would have happened if King Henri had realized that the price of Tristan’s loyalty was Vianne and given her to him. A straight-up arranged marriage fic would be great (in fact I got one as a raffle prize and it was wonderful!), but I’m especially interested in seeing what would happen with the coup if Tristan hadn’t betrayed the King and Princesse. What would Vianne’s life have looked like then?
- Another Canon Divergence idea—what if the coup went off exactly as Tristan planned? What if Vianne found herself on a one-way boat trip to Tiberia? I can’t imagine Vianne would have been very happy about this turn of events, but does she try to go back?
- I’d also love a fairy tale AU or fusion—I think this canon works really well for that, and tonally it’s very much got the right feeling. Note that the series itself is somewhat dark (there’s a canonical dubcon scene in book 2), so darker takes are welcomed!
For this request, I am fine with non-canonical major character deaths (kill Tristan or Vianne or both if you feel like the plot needs it), graphic torture and violence (it’s a war story and I like my wars disgusting), PWP, and non-con/dub-con (look, Tristan murdered a King over her and already kind-of-maybe raped her in The Bandit King, why wouldn’t he do it again?).
Lisele d’Arquitaine
Worldbuilding
In terms of general worldbuilding, go wild. I'd love more of the history and the stories that Vianne tells at the beginning of the book, or I'd love to see what life was like in Arquitaine at pretty much any point. I'd love to see something about how Adrien rebuilds the country and rules, or about Tiberia, or Arquitaine religion or pretty much anything else. Enjoy!
Analogue : A Hate Story
Forget my usual DNWs on this one. I basically just want a deeper exploration of Hyun-ae and Mute in their respective storylines. This is a request where my DNWs are stripped down because I think they both have dark storylines as it is and I love leaning in as opposed to leaning out. For this request am completely okay with darkfic, and particularly would love non-con/dub-con, graphic violence and torture, PWP, etc.
Kim Hyun-ae | The Pale Bride
- Please, tell me about Hyun-ae’s forced marriage in all its gory details. Noncon/dubcon here is welcome, I enjoy D/s with femsub dynamics and impregnation fic (maybe this is what drives Hyun-ae at the end?).
- Alternatively, just a deeper exploration of her waking up in a Very Different Century Than Expected would be fascinating. She’s essentially a modern girl that’s been transported back to a time that she doesn’t understand, and she’s rebellious. I like that.
Mute
- This is grounds for a serious AF war story. Tell me about Mute trying to manage a revolution on her ship and failing! What is the combat like, what strategies are people using, etc.
- You could also go for a fix-it option and have her root it all out before they can wipe/reprogram her!your cut contents here.
Revolutionary Arc
Did I write this series? Yes. (Did I nom it to this exchange? Remarkably, no). If you’re finding yourself writing this for me, I will love you forever because the main series is like 1.1M words and just… thank you. So much. I loved writing this series, I love the people who want more and/or write fic of it themselves, and thank you. So that said, onto my prompts for this.
Francesca Lam/Aldon Rosier
This is my not-so-secret actual OTP, and they’re more or less OCs. Great job, past kit. Anyway, I will love probably anything and everything you could come up with here. Feel free to attack this with a 5+1, 7+1, or any number + 1. Some particular ideas:
- I’d love more mundane established relationship fluff, or pre-wedding fluff. More from the various dates and romantic moments they had to have had between the end of the war and when they finally get married would be great, whether it’s during Chess’ college years, when they’re a young business couple trying to take the world by storm, or anything else.
- Post-revolution: Aldon decides he needs to go on a quest to find kraken’s blood so he can give Chess the gift of wand magic. He is singularly unqualified for this quest. What does he do, how does he achieve it, and does Chess even care about wand magic at this point?
- After the end of Five More Proposals and a Shotgun Wedding and/or Running the Gauntlet: Redux: Wedding hijinks and fluff! Who is the bridezilla? Who throws tantrums over the dress, the cake, the flowers, or the décor? Who is tired of having too many pictures taken? Who else is involved? Exactly how pregnant is Chess before they manage tie the knot, and is there an actual shotgun involved at any point? What does their eventual wedding look like?
- Look, I love scenes of Aldon trying to figure out the modern world (and, usually, failing), or in this case, of Chess introducing him to routine Muggle things that he Does Not Get. Give me Aldon’s first trip on an airplane, his encounter with a coffee machine, more of them in college when Aldon is basically failing at being a Perfectly Ordinary British Boyfriend, No Magic Bullshit Here. Give me his social awkwardness, people (affectionately) having to explain the world to him, all of that!
- A Certain Someone gave me the absolute brainrot of a rev arc fusion with Friends at the Table’s PZN/Palisade/TM/CW universe, so if you are familiar, please: Aldon as the Elect of the Divine Justice. Obviously, he’s Stel Kesh, and probably would have been unimportant but for the fact that he is the Elect of Justice, so… tell me more! Who is Chess, in this—what Stel is she from, or is she from a Stel at all? Is she on the opposite side of The Branched/Millennium Break/Other? Is there an insane star-crossed lovers thing happening?
John Kowalski & Francesca Lam
I think there’s a lot that can be dug into here about John and Chess’ relationship—from John’s motivations when he first started exploring her mindscape, to what he did when they realized they were irreversibly linked, to their relationship through the Tournament, the war, the ACD, Aldon… they’re the closest person to each other, and I would love something that really explored that.
So: scenes from San Francisco, or New York City, or Geneva, Montreal, London would be great, conversations that they have about Aldon or their other friends, anything else. They’re always there for each other, and I would really just love to see something that really emphasized that! Again—happy with an n+1 fic of assorted, moderately connected scenes!
In terms of in-fic headcanons I enjoy, I love Tamarisk's interpretation of the Kowalskis as being Jewish, and therefore I’d love if you took John as being Jewish (if Reform) and ran with it!
Worldbuilding
I’ve just gone and shoved everything else I would normally request here into this section, so really… this is a grab bag of things that are arguably worldbuilding but I will delight in:
- Those who read there’s a story at the bottom of this bottle (and i’m the pen) and and tomorrow, the world will know that Cho had a relationship with Alex during the war and had a son by him who was later adopted by Percy when she and Percy married. She was also shown as being a judicial clerk. Overall, I’d love an expansion on her relationship with Percy, and also a peek at the post-revolution Wizarding Britain legal system—Percy as the defence counsel, Cho struggling with starting a job as a court clerk with a small child, and what’s going on in these critical post-revolution years.
- I’ve generally mentioned and/or head-canoned that Lina becomes the Head of the DMLE post-revolution as James becomes Minister for Magic and Sirius becomes Minister for International Magical Cooperation. I would love something about the immediate post-war from Lina’s perspective, when they’re still putting down insurgent uprisings from people who were on Voldemort’s side, people who were on Riddle’s side, and people generally opposed to the elections. Casefic would be great about Lina arresting people she once knew for threatening the new electoral process.
- I would love more on international politics post-revolution! How is Wizarding Britain taken at the ICW? What about their relations with newly independent Wizarding Ireland and Wizarding Scotland? What about those Welsh revitalization efforts?
My DNWs on this one are pretty similar to my general HP fandom DNW for narrative justification of pureblood supremacy/blood discrimination, so I'll basically copy and paste what I mean here from above. Obviously, purebloods supremacy/fantasy racism is a big part of HP, but JKR always portrayed it as a bad thing, and I'm happy to receive fic that does the same. It can be in the fic. What I don't want is narrative justification that it's okay--I don't want pureblood supremacy to be OK because "Muggles threaten the wizarding world", or "We need to protect traditional pureblood society" or whatever fucked up reason, unless it's clearly portrayed as being in the wrong (i.e. appropriate characters can go ahead and say these things, but narratively it should not be like "oh, okay, I suppose that's all right then.")
For rev arc, they're somewhat expanded to include Harry and post-TAA content, because a lot of the rbc original does include what I consider to be narrative justification for pureblood supremacy. So, to be clear, I don't want things like "purebloods do nothing without a reason" (said by Harry). I don't really want characters like the Malfoys to be portrayed as anything but pureblood supremacists and having that be a bad thing, i.e. I don't want to hear about how "they're not really pureblood supremacists, it's all about power." It really doesn't matter to me whether a character really believes in the pureblood supremacist system, because they still enforce it. Again, it's okay for characters to say things like "Draco wasn't that bad, you know" if it's in character for the character to say, or to say any of these things, but it must be directly challenged in the narrative as being wrong (e.g., "Was he, or was he not that bad to you?", "Does what he really believed matter when he acted the way he did?").
I hope you find something here that is helpful to you, and look forward to reading your efforts!
