FIAB Letter 2022!
Aug. 24th, 2022 10:56 pm
Dear Creator(s),
Thank you for writing, or making art, or podding, or otherwise creating for me for fic-in-a-box! I hope you, or all of you, enjoy creating as much as I am sure I will enjoy your work. As a note, despite my long ramblings about plotty fic, I
am relatively easy to please—I just ramble a lot about plotty fic because I feel like there is more for me to say. I am always down for fluff-focused works, I really enjoy slice of life and fics that are basically just us spending more time with characters we love doing what they’re doing.
By way of organization and mediums, I’ve tried to throw in some ideas at the end of each character/ship or at least at the end of every fandom section, and there will be some more general comments at the very end of this letter. I’m generally happy to get in-universe documents fitting the canon setting, even if they aren’t directly specified—I’ve thrown in some things I think would be really great, but of course if you have other ideas, that’s great too! I’ve also opted into other things, so please take a look at those too.
A general note: if there's a medium or something on AO3 that's not listed here, DO NOT WORRY. I went back and added a few things, particularly more on typesetting and cross stitch patterns. So I do want them, I just did not update this letter because... how finicky. Anyway. AO3 mediums are all correct!
General
Likes:
- Fics that are character-focused, character-driven, and deal with character exploration or character development. Show me aspects of a character I never considered before, or explorations of how a character's upbringing influences their worldview!
- Fics as challenge, whether it be a challenge on canon, on fanon, on fandom, or a comment on our own reality! This includes rage-driven spite-fic where you want to make a Point, which I often enjoy.
- A focus on relationships, particularly how a character interacts with the world around them and other characters based on their upbringing and worldview. Thematically, I love when characters are put in a tough spot, moral ambiguity, and themes around honour, duty, and responsibility.
- All flavours of AU. Canon-divergence, Modern AUs, Mundane AUs, crossovers, etc, especially if it interacts with one of the above.
- Worldbuilding, especially through in-universe documents (please consider this an opt-in to pretty much whatever in-universe document or weird in-universe storytelling device you can dream up).
- Alongside the worldbuilding, I really like accuracy and real-life details. I’ve fucking adored fic that involve a deep understanding of 9/11, I’ve written fic where R2P is a big deal, I suspect I’m known for my legal shit, and so—if you have specialized knowledge of something, I love seeing it!
- Romance of all varieties: fluff, happy endings, drunken confessions, friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, fake marriage, arranged marriages, established relationships, slow-burn, shovel talk, and pining (mutual or otherwise). In general, I prefer M/F pairings, but I don’t mind M/M or F/F pairings and prefer them if canon (I just enjoy them differently because I’m cishet).
- Smut-wise, I love first times, gentle sex, rough sex, possessive themes, mild BDSM (e.g. bondage, spanking with a hand), D/s with femsub, impregnation and pregnancy.
Dislikes:
In general, unless otherwise requested, I don't take well to crack fic, soapbox fic/issuefic, amnesia fic, body swaps, cringe comedy, and plots based on miscommunication or jealousy. If there is hurt, I would like comfort, or I often just can't get through it—same goes for angst (unless explicitly requested, of course!). That said, these are general dislikes--they're not DNWs, I have liked fics with all these themes, I have sometimes requested these things, and if you have an idea that you’re worried might come close to one of these but where these aren’t the focus, don’t worry and go for it.Hard DNWs:
Please note that these are my general hard DNWs. In some cases, there may be sections where some (or all!) of them won't apply, and in that case follow what was in the sign up.- Character bashing. In general, I like to imagine that all characters are like people—they're complex, and they have an array of good points and bad points.
- Harm or death of children or small animals (background mentions or past references is fine, as are things like statistics—I just don’t want to be dragged through it in detail, like please don’t make this a central point of the
fic). - Except otherwise indicated, non-canonical major character death, graphic violence and torture (graphic being “more than what is in canon”), non-con or dub-con, PWP or large age differences (>15)
- Adultery or infidelity (specifically, this is mostly about the betrayal--if you have a plot where two people are married for convenience and happen to have other relationships, that wouldn't trigger as long as everyone knows and doesn't care)
- Smut-wise, unless it’s indicated above in my likes, I’m likely not going to appreciate anything kinky. To be more specific, I DNW A/B/O, age play, humiliation, bloodplay, cannibalism or vore, watersports, scat, mpreg, snuff, or underage (<15).
Harry Potter
Favourite Tropes
I have a few favourite tropes and kinds of fics for this, which come up all the time:- Rule 63 is amazing for this fandom, because gender issues are sort of rife throughout the novels. Even in the more progressive areas, we can see that JKR hugely valorises motherhood (see: Molly Weasley), that she disrespects women openly feminine (see: treatment of Cho Chang, Fleur Delacour), and then there’s JKR’s comments on trans-persons.... There’s just so much to work with when you mess around with gender in this universe, and I love it.
- War: Look, if you are one of those Massive Nerds Like Me who know a lot about law, terrorism, international relations, insurgency, counter-insurgency, or actual politics (looking at all you lawyers, polisci geeks, international relations grads, ex-military, Hoya alumni, anyone who hangs out on acoup.blog…), you know without me telling you that quite a lot of the actual war and post-war piece doesn’t make sense. I would love if you took a perspective that made the war realistic.
- Post-War and Redemption: Running a bit along the lines of the above, war is messy. Character relationships post-war are going to be equally messy! I love watching characters develop from the people they had to be during a hopefully realistic war and re-adapting to peaceful society—regardless of whether they
were on the side of right or wrong. - Worldbuilding: I’ll take pretty much anything for worldbuilding because there are So Many Questions and So Many Unsatisfactory Answers. High society pureblood culture is a good option, because while fanon often interprets this as aristocracy-like with arranged marriages and so on, I’m less convinced that is
actually the case (or... make a case for it for me). Other options include the inner workings of the Ministry of Magic, international relations, relations with Muggles if any, how does the Statute of Secrecy Work…? - In general, for worldbuilding, I strongly prefer things that bring the magical world closer to the real world, not things that make them More Magical, e.g., how does the wizarding world react to major Muggle events like WWI? What about their relationship with Muggle Christianity? Even if they didn’t formally split off from society until 1692, was there a period of withdrawal? If so, when did that start? Generally, given that the Statute of Secrecy canonically only came into force in 1692, I really go off on how witches and wizards before then
lived in our world with differences happening afterwards. - Therefore, I ascribe to the view that lot of British wizards are probably Christian in a broad way (that may theologically actually be quite different), that they celebrate Christian holidays simply because they were the
“default” holidays in 1692, and that any paganism movement is probably a post-Statute revitalization (because Europe had effectively eradicated paganism some seven centuries before the Statute). Further, I also like to think that there is significant overlap and bleed-through between our worlds, both because of the continuing influx of halfbloods and Muggleborns, but also because the wizarding world seems to not have systems for the supply of basic goods, i.e. agriculture, textiles, etc. Madam Malkin has to buy cloth from somewhere. - Overall, I like to see fic that shows me that wizards are human, and that magic doesn’t make them infallible or better humans—I find fic about how witches and wizards are superior re: various -isms because of magic to be really disheartening because it’s like telling me that no matter how much we try, we cannot be great because we can never have magic. I really like fic that emphasizes our common humanity, which can be great or awful!
- I do have a fandom-specific DNW here, and it is narrative justification of pureblood supremacy. Obviously, purebloods supremacy/fantasy racism is a big part of HP, but JKR always portrayed it as a bad thing, and I'm happy to receive fic that does the same. It can be in the fic. What I don't want is narrative justification that it's okay--I don't want pureblood supremacy to be OK because "Muggles threaten the wizarding world", or "We need to protect traditional pureblood society" or whatever fucked up reason, unless it's clearly portrayed as being in the wrong (i.e. appropriate characters can go ahead and say these things, but narratively it should not be like "oh, okay, I suppose that's all right then."). When it comes to redemption arcs, which I love, I really need the characters to acknowledge the wrong they have done and then atone for it.

Blaise Zabini
Blaise is super interesting to me from a few different angles.- First, his mother and her many, many husbands that died mysterious deaths—that has to do a number on Blaise. Who was his father? Does he have a favourite stepfather? How does he feel about his mother, and the rotating door of stepfathers? TELL ME MORE.
- I was around when HBP came out and a whole bunch of racist people in fandom absolutely lost their minds that Blaise was described as having dark skin. Anyway, he’s dark-skinned! My impression is that this is “dark-skinned Italian” from a British perspective, rather than Black, but I am open to your interpretation so long as Blaise is a character of colour. Please tell me about his experiences at Hogwarts, especially in Slytherin house, as a character of colour!
- Blaise during the war. I don’t believe that every Slytherin was evil, because that’s ridiculous. Tell me about Blaise and the other Slytherins during the war—how did he feel about the Death Eater contingent, since there’s no evidence he ever was one (a collaborator or a bystander, probably, but a Death Eater himself, probably not). I’d love to hear more about Blaise and the other Slytherins during the war, and afterwards when they’re tarred with the same brush!
Cho Chang
Cho Chang holds a special place in my heart because when I was a kid in 1996, she was like the only character I saw in literature that looked like me. Was she a particularly good example of diversity? Not really—but that’s something that calls out to be fixed.
Make Cho Chang Asian. Make her Korean or Chinese by heritage, and let it show in her character. I’d love to see how her cultural background influences her character and her relationships. I also really love fic about immigration and identity, and I would love a fic where she negotiates who she is as a person of colour in majority-white Britain.
Draco Malfoy
Draco has literally so much promise. He is who he is because he is a product of his upbringing, and the world he thought he knew shifts so completely under him during the course of canon. Tons of material to work with here on multiple fronts, plus all the gender mess that I love. Some prompts:- Draco was a child when he joined the Death Eaters. I'd love to see him in the immediate post-war. How does his trial go? How do his friends treat him, when he once thought he would be a hero, and now he's possibly a criminal? Is he tried at all? How does he come to terms with what he's done? Yes, I've read a ton of Draco post-war redemption arcs, and I still want more.
- Rule 63! Draco Malfoy is from a conservative, pureblood family, which means that a F!Draco Malfoy was probably raised very, very differently than her canon counterpart. How does that play out? Is she highly feminine and has she ever played Quidditch (there is one mention in PS that the Slytherin Quidditch Team
is all boys)? Is she intent on making a good match for her family? - Better yet, on a Rule 63, I’d love to see how Voldemort victimizes F!Draco as opposed to Draco. Since Bellatrix is essentially Voldemort’s right-hand woman, it’s clear that Voldemort doesn’t necessarily treat women differently from men, but at the same time the majority of his followers do tend to be men and Voldemort was raised in a more conservative time himself. Does Voldemort still force F!Draco into trying to kill Dumbledore or does he punish her in the stead of her family in other ways? (note: if you decide to do this, my non-con, dub-con, graphic violence, torture, large age differences, and major character death DNWs are suspended.)
- What if Draco Malfoy was a trans woman? That’s just… the entire plot, actually. Would love to see this realization at Hogwarts in the context of the war, with Pansy as an ally.
Dudley Dursley
I think Dudley has a lot of promise. He was raised in a certain way, to believe that it was okay to abuse Harry, and towards the end we see him starting to change his views by leaving tea at Harry’s door. Dudley and Harry could have
been siblings, and they weren’t—or, maybe, they still were because families do sometimes play favourites like this (abusive families, yeah, but they exist). Some prompts:
- What happened with Dudley? What brought about the change—was there anything? One of my favourite fics is Celebony’s A Hero, so I’d love to see something prompt Dudley into seeing the abuse around him. What does he do from there?
- What happens after the war? The Dursleys go into hiding for the war—that had to have left an impact on Dudley. Where does he go from there, does he reconnect with Harry afterwards? What’s their relationship like after that?
Pansy Parkinson
I’m interested in Pansy for a few reasons:- Pansy is a pureblooded woman. What does that mean? There are a lot of interpretations that have pureblooded society being extremely conservative, with arranged marriages etc, but I really see no canonical evidence of this; that said, I do think pureblooded society socializes women differently from men, because most societies do. What does that mean and how is Pansy socialized to behave?
- Pansy’s only real action during the war was in seventh year when she said they should hand Harry Potter over and gets all Slytherin House escorted out before the Battle of Hogwarts. Tell me about this decision. I actually have a lot of sympathy for her here because I don’t think this was an action where she was on Voldemort’s side or anything—I think she was a terrified eighteen-year-old thinking of the children in the room and wanted safety. I think she said what other people thought, and then I think she paid a very high price for that. Tell me more about it!
- Finally, we get a lot of Draco redemption stories, but I’m really interested in redemption story for characters like Blaise and Pansy. What do they have to be redeemed for? Do they think they need to make amends? How do they behave going into the future?
Percy Weasley
I am one of those people who thinks that Percy gets a bit of a short shrift in canon. His brothers make fun of him because he's dour and stiff and boring, and he's the only one of the Weasleys who is taken in by the Ministry. But if we consider his background, is this really that surprising? Unlike the rest of our characters, Percy is probably the only one who has memories of the First Wizarding War. In 1981, when Harry defeated Voldemort, Percy was about 5 or 6 years old. He was possibly the oldest Weasley child still at home (in order for the timelines in PS to make sense, Charlie has to be at least 3 years older than him, if not more). The twins were 3 or 4, Ron about 2, and Ginny a baby. Molly almost certainly put more responsibility on Percy than he should have had, there were almost certainly extremely strict rules on him at pain of Death Eater attack and the death of his whole family and in the mix of this, Percy is 6! He is exactly what his parents made him be at that age—someone who takes on too much responsibility, who follows authority rigidly because he has been taught to follow orders without questioning, because that is how you keep a 6-year-old from inadvertently getting his family killed. So:
- I am 100% down for a post-fic redemption arc for him. Hell, I am down for an AU where Percy never joins the Ministry, or where Percy is a spy for the Order within the Ministry, or where Percy is actually given the skills he needs earlier on so that he doesn't later fall for the Ministry's words.
- Tell me more about Percy's relationship with the rest of his family. Tell me how out of place he feels caught between his older brothers, who are just a bit too old for him to fit with easily despite the fact that they're the ones who remember the First Wizarding War (Charlie being at least 9 or 10 and Bill even older means that while they remember it, they also had the ability to understand it), and his more rambunctious younger siblings. Tell me how rules-following Percy gets by in a family that clearly doesn't really get him.
- Give me a Percy Weasley romance. I want him to be happy and don’t really care who he’s with for that to happen. Pansy Parkinson creates some interesting character dynamics, so I nominated her; but at the same time, we know nothing about Audrey and I’d love to see something like Percy coping with the end of the war and the mess of his family by escaping into the Muggle world and falling in love with a Muggle (yes, I headcanon Audrey as a Muggle).
- Rule 63 Percy. This is an interesting one because gender clearly matters in the Weasley family; Molly Weasley kept having kids until she had a daughter, and it’s clear that Ginny was raised quite differently from her brothers (Ginny broke into the broom shed; the boys didn’t have to). If Percy is a girl, is she the youngest of three? What if she’s a trans girl? How does her family react?
Tom Riddle
I’m really not very convinced with the canonical explanation for why Tom Riddle became Voldemort. JKR says that he is incapable of love because he was conceived under a Love Potion and not real love, but this reeks of Too Much Simplicity and Not Enough Realism to me. I’d love an in-depth exploration of how Tom Riddle became Voldemort, and why? (This is another request where my non-con, dub-con, graphic violence, torture, large age differences and major character death DNWs are suspended).- What was his past like? We know he was in an orphanage, and it was sombre, but I don’t think that’s necessarily enough to turn him into a power-hungry sociopath. Alternatively, how does he work this at Hogwarts, or in his post-schooling quest for power?
- Without his followers, Tom Riddle would have just been a terrorist. How does he draw followers? Power is one aspect, sure—but Tom Riddle didn’t just attract bottom-feeders, he attracted people who were already powerful and with money. So, why are they attracted to him? Why are they risking their power, their wealth, their status in society for him, and in large enough numbers to terrorize a nation? I’d love if you drew on real life elements in post-WW2 Britain or developed widespread political and cultural concerns to really give
this life. - RULE 63: Voldemort was born and raised in an earlier time, probably WW2 or thereabouts. How does a F!Tom Riddle handle the world? How does she deal with Horace Slughorn, how does she gain followers, and what does her path to conquest look like compared to Voldemort’s?
Cho Chang/Cedric Diggory
I love Cho/Cedric as a pairing because I think they’re very sweet! I would really love something that maximizes the fact that they’re sweet, they’re teenagers, they’re head over heels in love, they’re passionate and a little stupid, and generally that anything for you vibe. Getting together fic would be great, but so would established relationship fic! Some prompts:- Quidditch relationship/rivalry! They’re both in Quidditch, so it’s a common basis for a relationship—but as any Asian knows, sports-ing is not necessarily supported by family. There’s potential for conflict there, especially if Cho decides to go professional in Quidditch as opposed to, say, becoming a Healer. And Cedric there to help her get through it.
- Cedric Lives AU—where are Cho and Cedric during the war? How does the impact of the war affect them and their relationship? I should note here that Cursed Child being like “Cedric would have been evil” is absolutely dead to me, so no evil Cedric please.
- Cedric Lives AU because Cedric knocks up Cho after the Second Task and it is deemed too scandalous to allow him to compete in the Third Task at all! Honestly, since Cedric doesn’t know he would have died, I really would love a fic that focused on the fallout of this—the scandal, the decision not to allow Cedric to compete, what people are saying about Cho and Cedric. I also would really love if Cedric and Cho were madly in love in that teenage way, and for Cedric to really take ownership for his part in the whole situation, and for them to basically have to grow up really fast and Figure Shit Out together. And a very quick shotgun wedding that has more media attention than either of them want.
I’m a fluffy person and a fluff fan, so I definitely would prefer if we just… pretend like Cedric didn’t die if you write Cho/Cedric, because I don’t think I could handle it unless it was far, far in the past for Cho and she had moved on. I like her and while Cedric’s death is no doubt a huge part of her past (hey, maybe it’s why she goes and becomes a Quidditch star, because it’s where she felt like she could get away from her grief?), I would be sad to read about her pining for a dead boyfriend in the present. Similarly, I like Cedric, let’s not have him become a Death Eater a la Cursed Child.
Cho Chang/Blaise Zabini
This is a ship that I am deeply into for sheer thematic potential. One of my favourite, favourite things to explore are themes of identity, especially immigrant or racialized identity, and about fitting in against a “mainstream” society. Cho is Chinese; Blaise is, if not Black, certainly Black by British standards (though really I suspect he’s just a dark-skinned Italian). I’d love something about this at Hogwarts, during the war, or afterwards. Basically, I think there’s a lot of immigrant identity angst to be had here by both characters, and I’m seriously into that. I don’t have precise prompts, but I do hope this is helpful!Cho Chang/Draco Malfoy
I have no idea what to think of this pairing other than: I’m interested, please convince me I should love this ship.
One idea that I can see as being plausible is both of them being Healers (Draco as some way of redeeming himself after the war and Cho because Asian Family Pressures) and having a great relationship that starts either in Healing school or at St. Mungo’s? I have always loved hospital dramas…
But really, anything goes! How do they get together? How do they get over their wartime experiences? What unites these two characters and brings them together?
Cho Chang/Viktor Krum
QUIDDITCH ROMANCE write me a sports anime with Quidditch and rival teams and I don’t even know. I’d also love to see Cho’s struggle being an elite athlete with pressure from her family? So maybe a Cho-focused fic where she becomes a professional Seeker (maybe she’s getting away from the feelings around Cedric, or the pitch makes her feel closer to Cedric, etc) and meets Viktor? Or some other Quidditch-related event/etc?Pansy Parkinson/Percy Weasley
I couldn’t tell you why I like this pairing in any clarity, but I feel like these two characters fit together. Personality-wise, I could really see them matching, and after the war, I think they’d really connect and relate to each other because they’re both in the position of dealing with youthful, if not child, mistakes. There’s Percy, who was arguably on the “wrong” side as part of the Ministry for many years; and there’s Pansy, who at 18 said something out of fear about handing Harry Potter over to Voldemort.
Some prompts:
- Getting together fic! I would love something where they met (possibly as Ministry co-workers, I really like fic where they are Ministry co-workers) and genuinely fell in love and had to deal with their own internal biases, the prejudice of the outside world, etc.
- I’m pretty much always up for a shotgun wedding, and for these two, involving alcohol is also great. They get drunk, have sex, and Percy knocked her up and now they’re getting married. I do like them to actually like each other (or have grudging admiration of each other that turns into like), rather than being unhappy.
Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy
A common pairing, I know, but I see so much promise in Draco and Hermione together. There is potential for a rivals-to-lovers or enemies-to-lovers arc, and since Draco is comparatively under-developed other than bigotry, there’s a
lot to explore.
- I’d love a Draco/Hermione secret relationship set at school. Do they have an academic rivalry? How do they get together? Is there lots of pining? Do they get discovered, and if so, how does everyone react?
- Double the Rule 63, double the fun! How does a M!Hermione interact with the world, and with a F!Draco? Certainly, he can’t slap her the way he does in Prisoner of Azkaban?
- I’m also partial Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy in the post-war period as well; of the main trio, Hermione is the only one with the emotional intelligence, I think, to know that she’s gone through some shit and needs to
heal from it. Again, I’ve read and loved several fics dealing with this, but always want more.
Hermione Granger/Severus Snape
I’ve read a couple really, really good HG/SS fics, being Post Tenebras, Lux, Sage (whose link I now cannot find), and Chaos is Come Again (which is now only available in PDF… ask me for a copy). Obviously, my large age gaps DNW doesn’t apply to this pairing.
In general, I strongly prefer that this relationship happen many years post-Hogwarts (like… in Hermione’s late 20s, at the earliest?), in an AU where Snape lives. What does Snape do with his life after spending so many years at war or undercover or recovering from the war? How does he meet Hermione again, and how do they reconnect?
Worldbuilding: How halfbloods navigate two worlds
There are a lot of directions we could go with this! In halfblood families, with one wizarding parent and one Muggle one, what are their traditions? How do they choose to blend their traditions, and how does it impact halfbloods as they grow up and go to Hogwarts? I think also this could apply to Muggleborns and their future relationships with their families—are they all like Harry and Hermione and basically say goodbye to their Muggle selves?
Overall, I would like some focus on how Muggle culture is different but valuable in and of itself, i.e. leaning away from magic being obviously superior and therefore Muggleborns and halfbloods should disentangle themselves from the Muggle world. It makes sense for Harry because he never had much there except being abused, but what about people who might really love their parents, or their siblings? What about Dean Thomas, for example, who largely grew up Muggle and has a whole family in the other world?
Essentially: read this prompt as a general invitation to explore how people navigate the barriers between the Muggle and the wizarding world.
Worldbuilding: Religion in the Wizarding World
Unpopular opinion time: I think most witches and wizards follow variants of our own religions. At the time of the Statute of Secrecy, which was when the wizarding world officially split off, paganism was dead. It had been dead for centuries; Ireland was fully converted by the 6th century, Scandinavia by the 12th. Christian led pograms against pagans until
there simply weren’t any left. So any paganism in the wizarding world, I think, would be a post-Statute revitalization much like the paganism movements today.
That isn’t to say that I think that witches and wizards believe the same faiths we do. I do think they hold their own variants that account for magic, and that’s what I’m curious about. What do wizarding Christians believe with respect to God and their own magic and Muggles? What about the halakha and hadiths concerning magic for Jews and Muslims? How does magic fit in with witches and wizards and their faiths? What about that revitalized paganism—how
did it develop, and how widespread is it? I’d actually love to see religious texts on this!
Mediums Requested
I’m not sure I have much to say else about the mediums specific to Harry Potter, but here goes anyway! Really, I love any kind of in-universe document that tells a story, that you could plausible argue fits in canon. Percy discovering
spreadsheets and spreadsheeting everything? I’m game. Legal decisions or documents for the Death Eater trials? Go for it! All sorts of journaling would be great, and I would especially love characters’ sketchbooks etc for my ships
where they’re clearly pining.
I love fanart (both in general, and of my fics), podfics of my fics, and recursive works of my fics. I have general permission up, so go ahead with any of these too!

Yukimi no Daiomoru/Nealan of Queenscove
If I have an OTP, it may be this pairing. I love Neal as a character because he’s got so much going on behind him—he’s the oldest page in years, and reading between the lines, it’s clear that he entered knight-training because his two
elder brothers died and left him as the heir to the duchy. He occupies a position of high privilege, being heir to a duchy, and he isn’t afraid to wield that authority if it suits him. He’s also funny, and he’s self-deprecating—in short, he’s complicated, and I love complicated characters.
And there’s Yuki, and everything we know about Yuki can be summed up in a few sentences. She’s Yamani, one of Princess Shinkokami’s closest friends; she’s from the noh Daiomoru house, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious houses in the Yamani Isles. She’s a mage, because she goes to the Midwinter mages party. She’s “plump and peppery”, and she can wield the shukusen and naginata, and the bow. She joins the Queen’s Riders.
And somewhere in Squire, Neal and Yuki have a whole romance that culminates in their engagement at the end of his Ordeal that we just don’t see. It’s aggravating enough that I have written their romance three separate times (in Unwilling, call me a fool, and two swallows) and it’s not enough, damn it.
So please: write me an intense Neal/Yuki romance. Make it full of chivalric courtly love, make it a full medieval-style courtship, give me a dreamy medieval romance where they’re both conscious of their status and there are chaperones and sneaking hand-holding, let alone a kiss, is a big fucking deal. Fill it with wistful, yearning vibes, and all the pining. All the dramatic, angsty pining, especially when Neal goes off to war.
Or: blow up the sparks and give me their first night together. Are they shy? Established-relationship fic also works for me—give me Yuki’s first visit to Queenscove! Pregnancy and kidfic are also wonderful, and certainly in Neal and Yuki’s future since he is the heir to the duchy, and I’d love to see them being deeply in love around their first pregnancy and child.
Or: screw the rest of that, Modern AU would also be excellent. Is Neal a rising fencing star struggling to balance his tournament schedule with the demands of medical school? What about his brothers in this case; are they setting the standard for him, having both gone to the Olympics? What about Yuki—is she an international student recruited for her own skill with the blade or other athletic skill? How do they meet, and how do sparks fly? Though, if you do this, while I’m very partial to fencing, that’s because I actually fence, so… unless you also fence, it might be easier if you just picked hockey. Or rugby. Or another sport on the violent end that I know absolutely nothing about, because fencing culture is special.
Numair Salmalin/Veralidaine Sarrasri
My second-favourite ship in Tortall is Daine/Numair. Despite their age difference, I think they work in a way that neither of them could work with anyone else. Numair is one of the most powerful mages in the world, which sets him in a class apart; Daine is half-divine and also one of the most powerful mages in the world. Both of them are slightly terrifying to everyone else around them. They can understand each other in a way that no one else can, and I love that for them. And I also love the fact that their age difference causes conflict.
I’d love more on their romance! Unlike many of the others, theirs plays out more or less within The Immortals, but I want more. Tell me about when Numair realizes his feelings; we know that six months before they end up in the Realms of the Gods, Daine has unicorn fever and is delirious and he swipes a bit of hair for his locket. What was his thought process there? Or, tell me about the immediate aftermath of the Immortals War—outside the desperation there, how do they find their place together? When does Daine move into Numair’s rooms in the Palace, and when does she finally agree to marry him and why? Smut is also fine, though for Tortall in general, I prefer first-times and gentle sex.
Or: Modern AUs for these two are also fun, because they really blow up the age difference issue since, well, a 14-year age gap might not have actually been that startling in the time period of Tortall, but today it certainly is. I love having this set on a university campus too, because it works for these two so well because they are dorks, and I also loved my university years. So set Numair the biology grad student/professor against Daine, the precocious freshman, and all the drama!
For other media, I’d love a peek at Numair’s workbook—does he try to sketch Daine around his technical spell notes? Again, romantic fanmix also works here!
Kaddar Illiniat/Kalasin of Conte, Roald II of Conte/Shinkokami of Conte
I’ve put these two pairings together for prompting purposes just because they really are quite similar. Both of these are arranged marriages; both of these are royals. I’d love to see more of either pairing, particularly how they adapt to their circumstances and grow to love their spouses!
For Kalasin and Kaddar, I’d love to see Kalasin going to Carthak for the first time, the country where she’ll be an empress. I’d love to see how Kaddar treats her, and how they fall in love in the middle of the pomp and circumstance of the Carthaki Empire.
For Roald and Shinko, I’d love to see more from Roald’s perspective! In the books, we see more of Shinko because she’s close to Kel, but how does Roald see his match? Does he see Shinko and is it love at first sight? Or is it something that grows over time through care and effort?
I’d like to think that they all end up happy, and that they all do end up loving each other and the families they have together. Again, in this fandom, I’m all about first times, gentle sex, and I am certainly fine with all the pregnancy and kidfic if that’s where your mind takes you!
For other media, I’d love to see epistolary, or anything else that might peek into the characters’ developing feelings for each other! Or a romantic fanmix, or… really, something soft and romantic and pretty would do it for me.
Domitan of Masbolle/Keladry of Mindelan, Kora Ingensra/Ersken Westover, Saraiyu Balitang/Zaimid Hetnim
I put these three together because they mostly have the same sort of feel to me. These are (or would be) pure love matches, where they fall in love and get together, and any conflict would largely be external. I’d love getting together fic for any of these!
For Dom and Kel, how does Dom handle being in a relationship with a Lady Knight? Most of his circle would of course be entirely supportive, but there would be comments from Kel’s enemies. Does he laugh it off entirely? What about his relationship with Toby?
Kora and Ersken come from such different worlds—Kora is a mage in the Court of the Rogue, while Ersken comes from a respectable family and serves as one of the Provost’s Dogs. Where do they draw the line between home and work? How does Ersken’s family react to Kora if he ever takes her home?
Finally, for Sarai and Zaimid, I’d really just love more. We know that Sarai is beautiful and passionate and loving (and really not political enough to be queen), and Zaimid is kind and a Healer—how do they get together? How do they manage to plan an elopement right under the noses of everyone, including Aly? What is their life in Carthak like? I’d love to see their in-universe documents planning their elopement!
Alexander of Tirragen, Alexander of Trebond/Delia of Eldorne, Thom of Trebond
If the last requests have all been about the romance, the next prompt is mostly about war. I’d really love more on Alexander of Tirragen—why does he join up with Duke Roger? How does Duke Roger persuade him that he would be a better king than Jonathan, Alex’s childhood friend? Is there something that Alex wants, or are there serious and deep-seated problems in King Roald’s Tortall that he doesn’t feel Jonathan will address that he believes Duke Roger will address? Tell me more about him.
As for Thom, tell me more about how he ticks. Thom is not a particularly likeable character—we get the sense of this from the way that other characters, like George, react to him. Alanna has the most positive view of him, but it’s clear even from her narrative that Thom is… problematic (e.g. see the scene where she defends his lavish lifestyle by saying “he’s the Lord of Trebond, he’s allowed”). But I’d love more on Thom: his relationship with Alanna, his relationship with Trebond, exactly the flaws that made it so easy for Delia to taunt him into bringing Roger back.
I’d be very down for fix-it fic for both Alex and Thom. Thom makes a mistake of hubris in bringing Duke Roger back, and Alex is on the wrong side, and I’d love a story where they both successfully turned to the side of the Crown and lived.
If Alex is with Delia, I should note that for these two, I’d love to read an absolute disaster of a relationship that defined Unhealthy—or, maybe Alex is with her but is also spying on her and turning her into the Crown? Rough sex is fine for this, references to or implied abuse is fine for this, so long as it isn’t glorified.
For other media, documents showing Duke Roger’s plot would be good, or any other in-universe media.
Dovasary Balitang, Dovasary Balitang & Taybur Sibigat, Taybur Sibigat
This one is very similar to the last request, but I’m very interested in the immediate post-war Copper Isles! Dove is only about fourteen when she is crowned, and as any review of history will tell you, a young ruler usually spells trouble, even without a recent revolution. Hell, revolutions themselves are not usually successful—Max Boot’s Invisible Armies argued that only 1 in 3 were successful, but that included the whack of decolonization movements in the 50s/60s and is artificially high. Realistically, revolutions rarely succeed.
So, tell me about the early years of Dove’s reign—tell me about the continuing pockets of luarin resistance throughout the Isles and their plots to take the throne from her. Tell me about assassination plots against her, about Taybur’s efforts to keep her safe, and about the friendship and trust that develops between them.
For Taybur alone, I’m curious about his backstory since we know so little. Who is he—a luarin noble, or commoner, or foreigner, or part raka, or …? How does he feel about the revolution as it’s happening? Give me his private thoughts about Imajane and Rubinyan!
Any in-universe media would also be great—perhaps the crest of the Queen’s Guard?
Worldbuilding, Skysong | Kitten, Thom of Pirate’s Swoop, Original Characters
Build me more world! A couple ideas:- The Royal University! This would be perfect with Kitten and Thom of Pirate’s Swoop—how is the university organized? What are the main faculties, what classes are there? What about campus life? This would also be so perfect for some other media, like a map of the university, or an in-universe guidebook!
- What about some of the countries we don’t really see? Tell me about the cultures of Galla, Tusaine, Tyra, Maren, or even Scanra or Sarain. I’d love a travel guide, or a political analysis or something from the Tortallan
perspective for the Crown, or really anything! - What about Kitten? How often do her grandparents visit her, and does she ever visit her own extended cousins in the Dragonlands? How do they treat her? I love Kawit making it so that Kitten can mind-speak to everyone in the short story A Dragon’s Tale, so anything from that short story would also be welcome!
Mediums Requested
This is a medieval-ish fandom, so I would really love some medieval-ish things for it! Coats of arms and heraldic crests, stained glass artwork, tapestry artwork would be my absolute jam here, especially if they relate to any of my own fanworks. I’d also love some medieval style illuminated text, spellbooks, etc!
In terms of fanmixes here, for most of the pairings here I would love something romantic and pretty! In general, for music, I’m generally not much for top forty—I do like musical theatre and Disney a lot, and I particularly love Rewrite the Stars from The Greatest Showman and Aladdin’s A Whole New World. Anyway, Broadway is great, and I’m not sure what else to say here because outside of musical theatre I’m mostly an unrepentant teenage punk and metalhead.
Romances of Arquitaine
This is my pipe dream fandom, I can’t even match on this in Yuletide, but I am determined. How do I even begin describing my love of this series? It tickles so my id so hard, from concept to characterization to worldbuilding. To begin, there is Vianne di Rocancheil: hedgewitch, bookworm, and lady-in-waiting to Princesse Lisele d’Arquitaine. She’s also a royal byblow, but that doesn’t matter until it does, because there’s a coup that murders both the King and the Princesse.
Then, there’s Tristan D’Arcenne: the Captain of the King’s Guard, Left Hand of the King, desperately in love with Vianne and who might have betrayed and killed the King because the King wouldn’t let him court Vianne. With the coup, Vianne is now the Queen, if throneless, and Tristan must now attempt unseat the king that he might have helped put on the throne. Without letting Vianne know that he might have been involved in the murder of the last King and Princesse, of course.

Vianne di Rocancheil/Tristan d’Arcenne
I love the characterization of Vianne, especially in The Hedgewitch Queen. As she said herself, she was specifically raised to be without ambition, and those lessons took. What I love the most about her is that she is exactly what one would expect of a lady-in-waiting to the Princesse—she’s intensely loyal to her Princesse, she has no idea what she’s doing, the whole point of her life thus far was the glittering Court social scene. She has no practical skills, and she’s thrown into the deep end with no skills to survive it. And on the other hand, there’s Tristan, who is deeply in love with Vianne—and who was involved in killing the people she loved and who helped put her in this impossible situation.
So, onto my prompts!- Canon divergence AU! I would love to see what would have happened if King Henri had realized that the price of Tristan’s loyalty was Vianne and given her to him. A straight-up arranged marriage fic would be great (in fact I got one as a raffle prize and it was wonderful!), but I’m especially interested in seeing what would happen with the coup if Tristan hadn’t betrayed the King and Princesse. What would Vianne’s life have looked like then?
- Another Canon Divergence idea—what if the coup went off exactly as Tristan planned? What if Vianne found herself on a one-way boat trip to Tiberia? I can’t imagine Vianne would have been very happy about this turn of events, but does she try to go back?
- I’d also love a fairy tale AU or fusion—I think this canon works really well for that, and tonally it’s very much got the right feeling. Note that the series itself is somewhat dark (there’s a canonical dubcon scene in book 2), so darker takes are welcomed!
For this request, I am fine with non-canonical major character deaths (kill Tristan or Vianne or both if you feel like the plot needs it), graphic torture and violence (it’s a war story and I like my wars disgusting), PWP, and non-con/dub-con (look, Tristan murdered a King over her and already kind-of-maybe raped her in The Bandit King, why wouldn’t he do it again?).
In terms of other mediums, I’d love to see Tristan’s notebooks where he pines over Vianne!
Lisele d’Arquitaine
I admit I didn’t think much of Lisele until I got the arranged marriage fic last year but really: who was Lisele? On one hand, you have Vianne’s perspective, which is that Lisele was airheaded and needed her to look out for her; on the other, you have Lisele’s single action in all of The Hedgewitch Queen, which is to protect the Seal of Arquitaine and then entrust it to Vianne, which seems to act at odds with her described character. So: more about Lisele, please! I’d love an AU where she lived and took Vianne’s role, possibly because Vianne died for her or something (oh man, her problems with Tristan would be immense, but I somehow think she’d be better equipped to do it). Alternatively, if the coup never went off or failed, what is Lisele like as Queen?
Worldbuilding
In terms of general worldbuilding, go wild. I'd love more of the history and the stories that Vianne tells at the beginning of the book, or I'd love to see what life was like in Arquitaine at pretty much any point. I'd love to see something about how Adrien rebuilds the country and rules, or about Tiberia, or Arquitaine religion or pretty much anything else. This would also be great in the form of folktales or legends (expand on any that Vianne talks about in the beginning!) or religious texts. Enjoy!Mediums Requested
As another setting that is medieval-ish and this one has a faint air of myth around it too, which makes it even better for the medieval-ish mediums! I’d love to see coats of arms/heraldic crests, stained glass, tapestries, or tarot cards for this fandom. For in-universe documents, I’d love spellbooks (both of court sorcery and hedgewitchery), especially illuminated text, or documents relating to the coup, anything like that would be cool.
For a fanmix here, whatever this fandom looks like, it is not sugary sweet. I would love some metalcore for this—Imminence is hands down my favourite metalcore band, but I also like bands like Avenged Sevenfold (Unholy Confessions is a fucking beautiful song, no one can convince me otherwise), All That Remains, Sonic Syndicate, As I Lay Dying, etc.

This is one of my favourite canons, despite how long it is—I love how persistent Kyoko is, and the slow-burn romance between her and Ren. I love Moko’s sometimes frosty and aggravated support, and Yashiro’s entire personality. It’s also, as one can imagine from a manga about show business, completely wacky and I love that about it—bright pink uniforms! Getting into a major entertainment agency using skills at carving vegetables! It’s great!
For any of the friendships, I’d love a slice of life—just any scene where Moko and Kyoko or Ren and Yashiro are being friends. Maybe they’re on set, or just coming off set, or maybe they’re at a big cast party or release party or something? I love formal events, so a major gala would be great. I don’t know, I’d just love to see them all hanging out and being relaxed.
For Kyoko and Ren, I’d love basically anything from domestic fluff to wedding fluff to first-time smut to every accidental pregnancy trope ever. Or a “fake-dating” take where they’re cast as the romantic leads of a Japanese Pride and Prejudice adaptation! Honestly, I love these two, make them kiss (and more).
For Ren alone, I’d love greater exploration of his backstory—growing up in the limelight with famous parents, running off to Japan, anything. Obviously, given everything with Rick, this can be as angst-filled as necessary! I do like his relationship with his parents, too.
In terms of other media, I’d be happy with a lot of things! This canon is so perfect for the wide array of in-universe news articles, movie reviews, screenplays, interviews, etc—anything here would be great! I’d also love fanart of Ren and Kyoko together.

Every one of these books is so unique and SO GOOD. They’re all so individual, and they really go in all directions! God, how do I love this series. I love how unreliable each of the narrators are in their own way, I love the dynamics between the detectives, I love how each story packs a punch and they’re quite literary.
In general, all my prompts for any of these characters boils down to three things:- Character and relationships studies! I love fic where we examine what makes a character tick, or how relationships between two characters work, and I really love complicated relationships. Antoinette, Fleas, and Frank are really interesting to examine here, because there’s tons of space to examine socioeconomic class and class difference. For Frank, there’s a fun aspect of intergenerational trauma as well, and for Antoinette, being a woman in the Murder Squad.
- Case Fic! I’d be up for casefic with just about any of these characters and ships! Include a bunch of tropes here, like undercover at a formal event, which would be really fun.
- Honestly, slice of life things would also be pretty interesting? What if all these characters have to go to someone’s wedding or a formal event—what happens? Tell me about something from their day to day, or like… I don’t know, what happens in the Murder Squad when the coffee machine breaks? Crack is welcome here, please consider this an invitation for crack.
Numb3rs

Numb3rs is like the TV show of my heart. I did an undergraduate degree in physics and maths around the time this show was running, and it stuck with me—whenever I feel sad, I pull out my old DVDs of Numb3rs and start watching and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy and nostalgic. I love the characters, and I love the way the show isn’t oriented around a male/female sexual tension duo like so many other shows of this era, and I love the focus on relationships that aren’t necessarily romantic.
Colby Granger
I especially love Colby—I love his self-reflective lines (“Colby, go down the elevator shaft. Colby, jump in the bay. Hey, Colby, climb the Sixth Street Bridge”), and his general personality. I want more of Colby! I’d love more on his past, such as his relationship with his family (3 generations of military service, plus he has a sister), his service in Afghanistan, how he finds himself at the FBI, or his reflections on Charlie’s unorthodox math solutions. I’d love to see him on the CalSci campus (reflecting on his own experience in college through ROTC, maybe?), or his moving towards the future. Basically I love Colby, give me more. I’m open to ships for him, but I’m not really picky about them and would rather they were not the focus.Amita Ramanujan
I also really love Amita—tell me about her! Some prompt ideas:- Amita’s relationship with her heritage! Amita has obviously grown up in Southern California, and I generally love stories about identity, especially immigrant or diaspora identity. Tell me more about the balancing act between her heritage and her present!
- Amita’s relationship with math and physics would be great. I, too, was once a woman in physics, and I can say that being a woman in STEM is complicated. Generally people were welcoming, from professors to other students, but was there a sense that you had to prove yourself? A subtle denigration of femininity despite welcoming women? I can’t say no to that either. Tell me about Amita’s experience with this as a pretty woman in STEM!
- What does Amita think about Charlie’s use of mathematics in crime-fighting? It must have been such a diversion, and obviously she doesn’t mind, but it’s different! What does she think about the FBI officers who now come through the university, what is her relationship like with agents like David, Colby, or
Megan? Any of this would be good.

Like Numb3rs, this show has such hard family feels, which draws me like a moth to a flame. I just love characters being supportive of each other and taking care of each other!
Most of these pairings or groups, I’d really love more slice of life, family feels, etc. I’d love everyday events, like a holiday party at the station, or a firefighters formal event or something like that. Yeah, I have no thousand words on this, just “I like the family aspect, more please."
For the Han brothers, I’d really love an in-depth look at their family! Both Albert and Howard were affected so much by their father, either by their father’s distance or his presence. Tell me more about these two! I’d love something that compared their histories with their father, and that found a way past that history for both of them!
That said, for Albert, I also just want to know more about him. What drove him to run away from Korea? What does he even do in LA before he becomes a firefighter, and what does he do afterwards? How is he settling into American life?

This is a very new to me fandom, and for absolute clarity, I’ve only gotten through PZN in full and am about a dozen episodes into Sangfielle. By the time the exchange reveals, I wouldn’t guarantee me being all the way through Sangfielle, though I expect I’d be close to the end… so yes, worldbuilding there would be great, but I haven’t requested any Sangfielle characters because I am not that far in yet!
For PZN, I love the themes of revolution and anti-colonialism throughout. In any case, a few prompts:- For Clem and Gucci, I really want to know more about their backstories and rivalry (and more about Stel Kesh!). How do they get where they end up at the beginning of PZN? How was Clem removed from the succession of Stel Kesh to lead The Rapid Evening—was this a matter of choice? What about Gucci—how does a privileged girl from a privileged background come to lead HORIZON?
- This is a tricky one with PALISADE starting soon, but I’d love post-canon stuff too. What does Millennium Break look like after the end of PZN? What about Broun and Thisbe, where do they go from here? What about the other characters? Or, more broadly—what does Millennium Break look like from here on out, what do
they do, how do they expand? - For Millennium Break, I’d also love to hear just about anything. How are they internally structured after the end of PZN? How do they recruit new members, what operations are they doing, who knows what and gives orders? What about funding, and who funds them? How are they perceived by the public, and who
joins them? - Alternatively, I’d love to hear more of any aspect of the worldbuilding. I’ve always been super curious about The Branched and the war with The Branched, and there’s tons that can be covered by who The Branched have had to become to survive independently while fighting the Divine Principality.
- Also happy for Sangfielle worldbuilding, since I expect I’ll be most of the way through Sangfielle by then!
For other mediums, any sort of in-universe documents would be great! I’d love to see mission reports, technical drawings (of Divines?!), weapon schematics, or other bureaucratic documents or reports! Otherwise, I also think in universe audio for this would be really cool (maybe an interview with Clem or Gucci?. Typeface design for something really futuristic would also be great!
In terms of fanmix for this, I’d definitely lean more metal and probably symphonic or folk metal. Some of my favourite bands are Eluveitie, Epica, Nightwish, Kamelot, and Apocalyptica, but metalcore or punk rock would work great here too!Revolutionary Arc – kitsunerei88

Did I write this series? Yes. (Did I nom it to this exchange? Remarkably, no… at least two out of the three years this has come out). If you’re finding yourself writing this for me, I will love you forever because the main series is like 1.1M words and just… thank you. So much. I loved writing this series, I love the people who want more and/or write fic of it themselves, and thank you. So that said, onto my prompts for this:
Friendship Groups: Aldon Rosier & Aleksandr Willoughby Dragic & Neal Queenscove, Arcturus Rigel Black & Hermione Granger & John Kowalski & Francesca Lam
I generally love the dynamics of both of these groups. For Aldon, Alex and Neal, they all play off each other so well Aldon is a bit the odd man out, but after coming through the war, I think they become good friends. I’d love to see some of their post-war interactions. Some ideas:- How do or did they handle being at war together? Who does Aldon reach out to after he loses Edmund and Alice? Do they talk about it at all? Who wants/needs to talk about the war, and who refuses? How do they recover—or do they think recovery is even necessary?
- Post-there’s a story at the bottom of this bottle (and I’m the pen): What was Neal’s reaction to the news that Alex brings him? What relationship does Alex now establish with both Aldon and Neal?
As for Archie, Hermione, John and Francesca, I really spend most of rev arc not focusing on their relationships, so I’d really like to see them just having fun—whether it’s at AIM or post-war, doesn’t matter.
Francesca Lam/Aldon Rosier
This is my not-so-secret actual OTP, and they’re more or less OCs. Great job, past kit. Anyway, I will love probably anything and everything you could come up with here. Feel free to attack this with a 5+1, 7+1, or any number + 1. Some particular ideas:- I’d love more mundane established relationship fluff, or pre-wedding fluff. More from the various dates and romantic moments they had to have had between the end of the war and when they finally get married would be great, whether it’s during Chess’ college years, when they’re a young business couple trying to take the world by storm, or anything else.
- Post-revolution: Aldon decides he needs to go on a quest to find kraken’s blood so he can give Chess the gift of wand magic. He is singularly unqualified for this quest. What does he do, how does he achieve it, and does Chess even care about wand magic at this point?
- After the end of Five More Proposals and a Shotgun Wedding and/or Running the Gauntlet: Redux: Wedding hijinks and fluff! Who is the bridezilla? Who throws tantrums over the dress, the cake, the flowers, or the décor? Who is tired of having too many pictures taken? Who else is involved? Exactly how pregnant is Chess before they manage tie the knot, and is there an actual shotgun involved at any point? What does their eventual wedding look like?
- Look, I love scenes of Aldon trying to figure out the modern world, or in this case, of Chess introducing him to routine Muggle things that he Does Not Get. Give me Aldon’s first trip on an airplane, his encounter with a coffee machine, more of them in college when Aldon is basically failing at being a Perfectly Ordinary British Boyfriend, No Magic Bullshit Here. Give me his social awkwardness, people (affectionately) having to explain the world to him, all of that!
- A Certain Someone gave me the absolute brainrot of a rev arc fusion with Friends at the Table’s PZN/Palisade/TM/CW universe, so if you are familiar, please: Aldon as the Elect of the Divine Justice. Obviously, he’s Stel Kesh, and probably would have been unimportant but for the fact that he is the Elect of
Justice, so… tell me more! Who is Chess, in this—what Stel is she from, or is she from a Stel at all? Is she on the opposite side of The Branched/Millennium Break/Other? Is there an insane star-crossed lovers thing happening?
I’d also love art of any of this, or journal entries, or epistolary (apology letters for a Certain Event would be deeply amusing to me), or if anyone is feeling particularly nerdy, I’d love a schematic of the ACD or one of the papers that Chess and Aldon co-write. In terms of audio works, I’d love an interview with either of Chess or Aldon, especially after the ACD goes public. This pairing would also be great for a fanmix!
Non-Canon Ships: Aldon Rosier/Aleksandr Willoughby Dragic, Aldon Rosier/Hermione Granger, Faleron King/Francesca Lam
I didn’t write these ships in, but I’d love to see an interpretation where these worked out. Some ideas:- For Aldon/Alex, an interest is implied in LL that disappears because of theevents of VG—go ahead and explore this. Do they have a wild fling during Alex’s boot camp?
- About two chapters into VG, I realized that Aldon and Hermione would actually have a crazy enemies-to-lovers sort of romance—he’s from a very different world and is deeply conservative, while she is a modern feminist and activist. They fight like no one’s business, but also respect each other, and I’d love to see things take a different turn.
- What if Chess gave Faleron a chance earlier? Or, what if Faleron decided to chase Chess to England during the revolution? Or—plain old fluff would work here too, I pretty much never say no to fluff.
Alex Ships: Aleksandr Willoughby Dragic/Cho Chang, Aleksandr Willoughby Dragic/Fei Long Lin
I made Alex miserable in there’s a story at the bottom of this bottle (and I’m the pen) on both of these. But I would love some happier scenes with him on both of these pairings! For Cho, how does he get with Cho, both in the Triwizard Tournament and in the war? What about when Cho contacts him with her news from England after the war? As for Fei, I’d love something with Alex and Fei enjoying themselves in Serbia. This request is also ripe for pregnancy and kidfic, so go wild with any of the kiddos too (seen mostly in and tomorrow, the world).Again, I’d love art for this, or other in-universe documentation, or both of these really cry out for a really emo fanmix.
The Past: Christina Blake & Lina Avery, Christina Blake/Evan Rosier, Evan Rosier & Lina Avery
I outlined their agreement and their relationships in ties that bind, but again I’d love to see something less serious and sad involving the three of them—either the Evan/Christie romance in action, or either of the friendships would work! I also love AUs, so I'd love to see what happened if, say, Evan said "screw it" and married Christie?Any in-universe media would work here too. Evan’s security contract with Lina would be great if you’re up for it, or just plain old epistolary work between any of these characters would be great. There could be love letters between Christie and Evan, or updates on Aldon as he grows up from both Lina and Evan to Christie (and they would say completely opposing things, which would be very funny). Or again: a really emo fanmix.
Stormwings: Fei Long Lin, Lina Avery
Two different Stormwings from two different times! For both of them, their pasts are more referenced rather than described, so I’d love to see more about both of them. What were their motivations for becoming warmages? What about their training, and after training? How does Lina make her name, and what does Fei do before she joins the Order on retainer? For other media, a map of the Eyrie would be great, or both of these are good for fanmixes given my taste in music lots of rebellion in both of these two, and they’re warmages!
Worldbuilding
Make more worldbuilding! Happy to see pretty much any ideas you have, though I strongly trend “realistic” over anything else. I love Kitzsah’s fics exploring both Wizarding America and Wizarding China, and I’d love more in this vein too—alternatively, the Wizarding Russian Union is wide open for exploration. I love politics, and history, and people dynamics! I’d love a history of some part of the world in the rev arc context (e.g. Ireland?!), exploration of the ICW, or anything else.I’ve also generally mentioned and/or head-canoned that Lina becomes the Head of the DMLE post-revolution as James becomes Minister for Magic and Sirius becomes Minister for International Magical Cooperation. I would love something about the immediate post-war from Lina’s perspective, when they’re still putting down insurgent uprisings from people who were on Voldemort’s side, people who were on Riddle’s side, and people generally opposed to the elections. Casefic would be great about Lina arresting people she once knew for threatening the new electoral process.
Finally, I would love more on international politics post-revolution! How is Wizarding Britain taken at the ICW? What about their relations with newly independent Wizarding Ireland and Wizarding Scotland? What about those Welsh revitalization efforts?
Fandom-Specific DNW
Please note I do have some fandom-specific DNWs for this, which are very similar to the general HP one, so this is copied from above, more or less. I DNW narrative justification of pureblood supremacy/blood discrimination. Obviously, purebloods supremacy/fantasy racism is a big part of HP, but JKR always portrayed it as a bad thing, and I'm happy to receive fic that does the same. It can be in the fic. What I don't want is narrative justification that it's okay-I don't want pureblood supremacy to be OK because "Muggles threaten the wizarding world", or "We need to protect traditional pureblood society" or whatever fucked up reason, unless it's clearly portrayed as being in the wrong (i.e. appropriate characters can go ahead and say these things, but narratively it should not be like "oh, okay, I suppose that's all right then.").
For rev arc, this is expanded to include a focus on Harry and any post-TAA content, because unfortunately rbc does trip this DNW rather strongly. Despite on the surface being the opposite, the narrative repeatedly celebrates bigoted characters and says they aren’t that bad. Harry repeatedly talks about how she doesn’t deserve her (bigoted) friends, about how “purebloods do nothing without a reason”, about how purebloods are just so human.
So, to be clear, I don’t want these sorts of comments in text to go unchallenged. If writing about, say, the Malfoys, I’d like a reminder in text that they are in fact pureblood supremacists and this is bad thing, no matter what else they are, i.e. I don't want to hear about how "they're not really pureblood supremacists, it's all about power." It really doesn't matter to me whether a character really believes in the pureblood supremacist system, because they still enforce it. Again, it's okay for characters to say things like "Draco wasn't that bad, you know" if it's in character for the character to say, or to say any of these things, but it must be directly challenged in the narrative as being wrong (e.g., "Was he, or was he not that bad to you?", "Does what he really believed matter when he acted the way he did?").
Other Mediums
I think I cover some ideas pretty thoroughly above, but basically anything in-universe is fair game, have at it. Letters? Diary entries? Sketchbook excerpts, journal excerpts, all of these would be great. Aldon’s war journals would be fun, any letters he tried to send Chess would be fun, playbills for whatever Archie’s playing in would be fun, all of it would be awesome. All of it.
In terms of a fanmix, I admit that I listened to Rise Against throughout most of writing rev arc, and that one band still predominates my rev arc playlist. Other things that cropped up were The Greatest Showman soundtrack, a couple Disney songs, Linkin Park, and a smattering of other punk music, metal, metal core, etc. So while this isn’t a great description of my musical tastes, I definitely lean heavy, and I’ll point you down towards by general musical tastes for more.
I don’t think this needs to be said, but definitely yes to recursive works. :D
MEDIUMS
These are my general medium notes! Each of the individual fandom sections may have additional comments, but of course there’s no need to read any of this… Optional details are optional, after all.
In general, I love unconventional fanworks that fit well into the canon setting. Any sort of in-universe documents, art that works in the canon setting, etc—all of that is my jam! That could mean coats of arms, stained glass or tapestries, technical drawings, excerpts from a character’s journal or notes, legal documents, transcripts, social media, etc. Even if I haven’t specifically requested it, if it feels like something that fits in with canon, go for it!
In terms of art, I can’t say I know art well enough to have a ton of specific tastes? I have had a lot of anime and manga fandoms in my past, so I do love anime/manga style art, but that is probably more a matter of exposure than anything else. I love comics, and I like colours, and art in general is super impressive to me so I’ll love pretty much whatever! I prefer non-explicit art over explicit art!
As is obvious by my requested recursive fanfiction, I love recursive works. If you drew me something inspired by one of my own fics, or wrote something inspired by them, I’ll love it. I have general permission up, so feel free to draw fanart of my work, podfic or translate my work, write recursive fic of my work, etc.
Speaking of podfics, if you’re looking to make podfic (and as a new podficcer myself) I know that it can be hard to find someone with general permission. Take this as extra emphasis that you can pod anything I’ve written and I also welcome repods. Feel free to practice making podfics on my work, if you like. Soundscaping is cool, not soundscaping is cool, everything is cool! My only preference is that scene breaks have a slightly longer pause to mark the scene break, if there is no sound marker (around 1 full second is good).
I have asked for knitting patterns and knitting charts! I love knitting and I like to think I’m pretty good at it. Usually I knit things that don’t require much shaping, like fingerless mitts, cowls, and shawls but I would love to get into cardigans. I’m especially good at stranded colourwork, but also love lace because it pretty. I also tend to collect a heck of a lot of single skeins of very expensive sock-weight yarn of around 400m long. Anyway, I would love to receive a design inspired by any of my prompts! My general preference is “sneaky nerd” so something that is pretty and not too obviously fannish but then ACTUALLY—yeah, you get the point.
I've gotten back into cross-stitching lately, so samplers would be awesome. I love clever quotes from canon, that sort of thing, with a basic picture! Nothing complicated is expected here (in fact, I'm not THAT good at cross-stitch, make me something achievable).
On typesetting--uh, this just looked cool. I have no specific preference on fonts, other than maybe serif fonts since I do want to print them out and bind them into books? So whatever settings you need to generate a file that is printed out to be bound, I suppose.
Anyway, fanmixes! In general, my musical tastes lean heavier than top forty by like… a lot. Most of the music I gravitate towards is either punk rock or metal, and these days I really like metalcore. Of course, there are exceptions (I also like Disney and musical theatre!), but there you have it. Bands I love include Rise Against, Linkin Park, Imminence, Eluveitie, Apocalyptica, Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, and so many others. I’m told my music is too angry and dramatic, which makes a lot of sense because either my music is yelling about social issues or it’s being the Most Escapist Ever. I’m always happy to hear a new band, too!
